A bar with a fireplace that serves chai bubble tea laced with rum! Need I say more? Not really, but I will.
It's a small bar so don't bring everyone. The cocktail list is Chinese revolution themed. I'm working my way through the them and so far they are all delicious. The lovely bartenders are even flexible enough to make edits to the drinks.
It does get busy so go early. Personally I'm not thrilled the cute outdoor courtyard is a designated smoking area but others may appreciate it. The toilets are al fresco and a little chilly in winter. Hard washing facilities and (for the ladies) the mirror, is also front and centre in the courtyard so no shyness here.
A great little bar I was thrilled to (finally) discover. You won't regret checking it out. -

Double Happiness Bar was the last place we swung by before heading back to the airport and out of town. Even though we swung by around 7 PM on a Saturday night, it was not all that crowded, and we were able to grab one of the few small tables that are along the back of the bar where the couch is. That said, the space is pretty cozy - there are only a few seats like that, and a handful at the bar - so it can fill up pretty quickly once folks start to arrive. The decor is themed around dearly Communist China (call it the 1950s/1960s), with a lot of the propaganda posters of the time hanging up on the walls. It does a decent job of lending a 'retro chic' feel to the joint. As for the drinks themselves, I had 2 different ones with 2 different types of booze (one with gin, and one with tequila), and while both were very drinkable and overall quite enjoyable, I felt that the flavors and the mouthfeel ended up being very similar. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but as I felt I was getting two cocktails that would be a bit different, it was a small disappointment to end up drinking two very similar beverages.
There's about 15 or so different cocktails, though, so even though I seemed to repeat my selection a little bit, I would probably come back and have some more drinks here in the future. I like the ambiance (even if the local pop music doesn't quite match the timeframe being projected), and it's on a lively lane where you can step out and grab all manners of Asian cuisine if you need to fill your stomach further. -

We wandered in here while waiting for a table at Rice Paper Scissors. The bartender was extremely friendly and my alcoholic chai/bubble tea fusion was delicious. Although the lighting wasn't great, I loved the ambiance overall.

This bar was neither here nor there for me. It had an appealing charm when I first walked in, with throwback Asian art and a few comfy style seats. Their menu even had alcoholic bubble tea, which was super cute. Although after trying some of my friend's drink, I opted against it as it didn't present much in terms of the yummy goodness I was expecting.
I went for one of their other signature drinks which was good but quite loaded with ice so my actual drink to ice ratio was quite small for $17. I wouldn't complain if I came back here and may just opt for a classic cocktail but I won't be rushing back anytime soon. -

I know this place is a cocktail bar first, but I'm coming back for the food! I came here with a large group to celebrate my friend's Masters graduation, and she had ordered a few platters of small hors d'oeuvres - the best hors d'oeuvres I've ever had! It goes without saying, most of these did not last long. Unfortunately I can't remember all the bites that came out, but I shall do my best. First there were cassava and lotus root chips with a little heat added to them. Then came out little bites of ceviche heaven. There were dumplings as well, but the taste did not manage to wow our tastebuds. There were a few more other bites that were simply divine (i went for seconds with these ones and the crevice) but I can't remember what they were.
The drinks were varied and many. I was introduced to the alcoholic take on bubble cup (complete with a fat straw to stab through the plastic top) and was an instant fan of the delicate flavours. Some of the guys ordered near litre bottles of beer and shared it around with spare glasses.
I would definitely suggest to go here to my friends so I can sample more of their foods and their extensive cocktail list.
